What is ADHD?

ADHD is a diagnosed condition that affects the chemicals in the brain.

You can't see it, we often don't understand it and it can be very confusing.

There are many theories about when, why or how people get it.

We do know that it is genetic and that it really does exist.

It is not caused by 'bad' parenting, teaching or handling and can be improved, managed and helped with training.

ADHD and Autism Support Harrow

ADHD & Autism Support Harrow is a well established local charity (charity reg: 1080795) that has been in existence since 1996. It widened its objectives in 2010 when it took over the work of the former Harrow Branch of the National Autistic Society and became ADHD & Autism Support Harrow. The aim of the enlarged charity is to allow parents, carers, professionals and individuals affected by a diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to benefit from the significant overlaps in need between the two conditions to bring a range of expertise and experience under one umbrella.

We provide information, training, support groups and practical help. We provide general information on ADHD and/or ASD and on the services, benefits and other resources available to carers and people with ADHD and/or ASD from health, education and social services, voluntary organisations and the private sector.

Are you an adult struggling with ADHD?

Newspaper Adult ADHD support group
As a support group in Harrow, we are deeply concerned with what happens to our children when they are no longer under the care of CAMHS. Two of our members in particular feel passionate about the fact that ADHD does continue into adulthood, and therefore what help is around when that happens.

With this in mind, an informal group is now meeting at the Cedars Hall, Chicheley Road, HA3 6QH on the first Monday of each month from 8 - 10 pm. This group hopes to explore possibilities and to look at ways of helping each other.
