Alastair started trading as Mushroom Design when he retired from teaching. Many of his designs are based on natural forms using sterling silver wire, sheet and gemstone cabochons to add colour and interest.

“I believe "every man should have a shed” and that is where I spend much of my time making. I never thought I would return to teaching but I enjoy running jewellery making workshops either at home or the Ropewalk Gallery in Barton upon Humber.”

Alastair says he is assisted at the craft fairs he attends by his wife Jill and they both enjoy the interaction with fellow crafters and potential customers.

“In the past Jill and I have only attended Lincolnshire based craft fairs but this year we are doing some missionary work in Yorkshire where we shall be attending the Agricultural Shows in Otley, Driffield, Thornton le Dale and Kilnsley.”
